LOL! I've said "lol" as much as the next person, but this seriously made me laugh! Good job.

Take a look at Baldur's Gate how to make such a reminder message in a funny and non offensive way. The way the GW message is phrased is how a parent would address their child. I don't really need a computer game parenting me.

don't care to be honest...

but if people are so offended by it, make it optionall by a checkbox in options but just tag it as default. This way people that don't wish to be reminded on the time they spent, can choose not to show the warning.

Make it like hints. Nobody likes the hint box. One simple click, and it's gone.

if people get angry becouse they see that a reminder tells them that they have played for 6 hours, then they shouldn't play for 6 hours, for example: you don't like that people know you're stealing, so why do you steal then?
i don't care about the babysitter, it's no BIG problem that a small text says: you have been playing for 1 hour, and that text last for 5 seconds. it can be a help for people too, like in on hour i have to go, ok the babysitter tells me when one hour have passed....this is no problem, for 5 seconds, 5 seconds lol, there exists larger problems here...
but they could just have like: you have been playing for 6 hours, and nothing more

If your significant other would tell you every hour not to forget to breathe, eat and drink, what would you think?

a) Wow, cool that he/she reminds me of that. I am really grateful because I might have died of various reasons if he/she wouldn't have told me.
b) What the hell is wrong with her/him to tell me that nonsense every hour? Does he/she think I am completely stupid or what?

Or maybe another example:

"The "shift" key can be used to capitalize letters. Try it some time!"

^ Did you like that reminder or feel offended?

whatever. personally I appreciate this message to tell me that I have been playing for a long while. I like that if I'm down in the underworld and just got through the spawning pools that it reminds me to hold up a sec and take a break.... and that everyone with me prob just got the same message since it takes so long to get there.

Most people if they are anything like me play in the afternoon and before they know it its midnight... and you don't even realize the day was wasted.... This is a nice little reminder to look up from the computer screen and see what time it is... And maybe get off the computer for a few mins. Question: How many of you have saver headaches from being online for 15 to 18 hours at a time? I'm betting more then will admit to it...

The little reminder has already shown a vast improvement for me... every 3 hrs I take a small break... go and grab a drink, use the restroom, pop outside and take a breath of fresh air. and then back to gaming... Headaches are down a good 40% for me. and that's huge. Seeing as I work on the PC and play on the PC, most of my life I'm looking at a dam computer screen. so having a little reminder to stop for a sec if I have been playing for a while is really nice. I just wish I could implement it in all my programs.

It's like you're reading my mind man...reading my mind. Some hints just aren't that helpful.

I'm glad that this in-game notice has been helpful for some of you. Perhaps your appreciation of it is alone enough to make it worthwhile for ANet...however, for many years I have had a kind of "secret weapon" that helps me keep track of my game time. Today, I share it with all of you:

Hot diggedy damn!

I would be annoyed, not pissed. And it's not the same situation.

The Hourly message doesn't annoy me. Just like the HoH message. ITs subtle and doesn't spam the hell out of my screen just to sell Victo's Blade and talk gibberish about Koreans.

I want at least an option to turn it off. It annoys me and I have no guilt for playing for a few hours. I certainly don't need reminders either. Grrrrrrr.

GET RID OF IT PLEASE!

I dont think it should kick in at every hour... there missions that take more then an hour sometimes. Heck, when you quest in UW and FoW you need 3 to 4 hours sometimes if your doing multiple quests or clearing the entire place for the first time.

Every 4 hours is a nice reminder, should just say "you have played for 4 hours". Since I know that I should really take a break then, if it does boot you after 8 hours then thats just silly. Lots of people just leave it running in the back ground when they do other things. Now I can see a boot in 12 hours since any sort of play beyond that would almost always mean the "player" is botting.

this is pathetic, just leave after 3 hours at least for a 10 minute break. it only does you good.

Maybe it's Anet having the "guilty conscience syndrome" telling you to take a break after three hours when at the same time they made areas in GW that take 4-6 hours to clear... *cough* UW, FoW *cough*

Btw. The HoH messages actually contain somewhat useful information and they don't take anybody for stupid. Maybe that's why nobody is "bitching" about them...

You've obviously never played an RPG then. If you have, you'd know that lots and lots and lots of people devote most, if not all of their lives to them. No need to flame those who make such decisions. You're in an enviornment that has a lot of it, so get used to it.
